The Tigertown Towel

Prior to the East Division Semi-Final a Calgary-based Tiger-Cat fan purchased 20,000 rally towels to be handed out when people entered Ivor Wynne Stadium. I was one of the 20,000 who was able to acquire one of these towels. It's a pretty cool souvenir, which is now housed with the rest of my extensive Tiger-Cat memorabilia collection.

As the 2010 CFL season grows closer, I am beginning to wonder what will become of the one-off use of the Tigertown Towel. Will the people who came to the playoff game and received a towel bring them to home games throughout the 2010 season? Will Ivor Wynne start to look like Heinz Field in Pittsburgh?

Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

It makes for a pretty cool scene in Pittsburgh. Considering Hamilton and Pittsburgh are very similar cities, it seems appropriate that Tiger-Cat fans would use something similar to the Terrible Towel at home games.

I would like to add the Tigertown Towel to the atmosphere at Ivor Wynne Stadium. It would once again make the ol' girl on Balsam and Beechwood different from the other seven stadia in the CFL.

Should the Tigertown Towel be added to our fan experience during home games? I think it should, but I can't be the only one who swings a towel on game day, because then I'll look like a lunatic. Should Tiger-Cats fans try and make this a frequent occurrence at home games? Will you be bringing your towel to home games in 2010?

  1. I for one hope this continues. It was an awesome site last November seeing 20,000 towels being waved in the stands. If Pittsburgh has been able to keep that atmosphere, I'm sure Steeltown can as well. Let this be a call to arms for anyone who received a towel to bring it along to every home game...and away game for that matter!

    Wave your Tigertown Towel proudly!

  2. If we wave them at away games, we WILL look like lunatics! But I'm OK with that.

  3. It worked for the playoffs as there was close to 25K people.

For a regular season game of 20/21/22K and also of less importance, it doesn't have the same effect.

Look at the Flyers and Kate Smith. Using her for game 12 vs the Blue Jackets doesn't have the same effect as when it's played in game 6 of the stanley cup finals.

  4. Oh, don't be a party pooper. lol

I've got a couple of the gold ones they gave out in 2008 - "Tigertown" above the new leaping tiger, with "Thank You" at the bottom and dated Oct 24 (final home game that year). Might be a more impressive effect than all-black?
