Michael Young's Story

Any Tiger-Cat fan knows the story of Michael Young, Bob Young's brother, and him being the reason Bob Young bought the team. If you don't know the story, Bob Young shared it in a video that aired on Sportscentre earlier tonight. The video is narrated by Paul Osbaldiston. If it doesn't bring a tear to your eye, you are a better man than I.

  1. Great story! Thanks for posting. I didn't know that story as I'm not a Ticat fan... but, uh... root for a different CFL team.

Unfortunately you made a glaring typo in the last line. You misspelled 'cold heartless bastard' and somehow it came out 'a better man than I.'

  2. I was Mike's boss at G.E. Capital I.T. Solutions. I worked with him for 13 years.

If there ever was a funny guy, always smiling and telling jokes it was him.

When Mike started to work for me directly, I realized that people underestimated his talents and probably because he also like to talk about fishing a lot.

I remember doing a performance review with him and one of the things I asked him was, if there was anything he would change in this company. He thought for a moment and said "yeah, we should good all the workers a day off to go fishing !"

Well, that's the way Mike was. He would take something serious and bring humour to it.

There are so many stories over the years, that I can't even begin to list them all, but one thing is
for sure, he will not be forgotten. He made an impact on people his way and still I tell people about him.

When I wrote one of his reviews which featured Mike in a very positive light, I happened to mention that he had a "mind of an elephant". Not realizing the impact this statement had, like a real football fan he took off with this review to show it off. I did not hear about it until after his death when his dad was talking with me, and he mentioned this quote. He said "I sure would have like to meet his boss", and I said "you are looking at him".

A definite loss to us all. I still miss him.
